Foro Valparaíso: New Museum in Mexico City

Valparaíso is one of the most significant baroque buildings in the historic centre of Mexico City, the main legacy of the architect Francisco Antonio Guerrero y Torres and the former home of the Counts of San Mateo de Valparaíso.

On the occasion of the 135th anniversary of Citibanamex in Mexico, the financial institution decided to open Foro Valparaíso to the public. With characteristics of Mexican viceregal baroque architecture, cantera chiluca and tezontle stone on the façade and details of talavera poblana, this building formerly housed the Citibanamex headquarters after its foundation in 1884.

The museum features an extensive collection of 117 works focusing on uniquely Mexican themes, including works by great artists such as David Alfaro Siqueiros, Diego Rivera, Remedios Varo and Leonora Carrington.

Teotihuacán and Surroundings

Teotihuacán is one of the most visited archaeological sites in Mexico. The area has been under investigation for more than a century, as only 5% of the ruins have been excavated to date.

The most important pyramids are the 63-metre Pyramid of the Sun and the 40-metre Pyramid of the Moon on the northern edge of the Avenue of the Dead. The southern end of the area, only part of which has been excavated and researched, is dominated by the Temple of the Feathered Serpent, Quetzalcoatl, and the Rain God, Tlaloc, and is decorated with 365 heads of these gods.
